PEA is in the process of completing the design of a new production facility for Egger, a world leader in the manufacture and supply of wood-based products. The project, situated in Lexington, NC, includes a number of design and construction phases. The main phase of the project includes:
- Design management and coordination of all engineering disciplines with owner, owner vendors, local/state permitting authorities, utility companies, railroad service providers (Norfolk Southern), and all construction contractors.
- Engineering and architectural design of eighteen production buildings on specialty areas, and three office buildings
- Civil/site design of a 150 acre site including storm water management, utilities, and roads
- Rail spur design to service the site including a current and future ladder tracle rail yard
- Structural design and coordination of equipment foundations from fifteen different owner selected venues
- Dup foundations and concrete mat foundations for a high bay automotive storage and retrieval system (ASRS)
- Coordination and design of pipe bridges, conveyor, supports, concrete silos, and process tanks
- Coordination of necessary construction permits
- All engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection, Civil, Structural, and Rail

Professional Engineering provided structural engineering services for the production building, office building, administrative building, and entry. PEA also provided civil engineering for the 39-acre site along with industrial sanitary sewer, water for both domestic and fire protection, roads, parking, storm water, and detention.

PEA provided structural design for this 72,000 sq ft academic and administrative support facility on Tri-County’s main campus. This facility houses multiple student support services including student dining, tutoring, computer labs, an innovative vertical book lift system for maximizing storage of library reference materials while minimizing dedicated library stack floor space. Administrative and retail space is dedicated on the basement and main levels. The structure is conventional steel frame building with composite concrete/steel floor system and bar joist roof. Steel moment frames provide lateral support for the structure.

Nifco KTW is a worldwide provider of quality interior and exterior injection molded components for the automotive industry. PEA completed the structural design of Nifco’s U.S. Headquarters in Toccoa, Georgia.
The 154,000 SQ FT building contains:

- High-gloss paint booth
- 10,000 SQ FT of administrative space
- Production area containing 35 ton bridge cranes, injection molding machines, as well as, TSG-physical foaming, variotherm, and automatic assembly machines and operators

Daniel Defense is a firearm manufacturing company that is dominating the firearm industry, supplying arms to the United States Special Operations Command, the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence, and the public. After experiencing enormous growth, Daniel Defense expanded and moved into a new manufacturing facility designed by PEA in Blachcreek, Georgia, where the company is now based. The headquarters and manufacturing facility consist of 306,000 SF of space including:
- 235,000 SF of conditioned manufacturing space with 5 ton cranes and isolated thickened slabs
- One 25 Meter and one 100 Meter firing range flank to allow a space for quality testing
- 68,500 SF of two story class A office space
- The structure consists of steel frame and load bearing concrete tilt walls
- The building allows for future expansion to be possible through the use of site, shell, and interior features including future office space and removable tilt-panel walls.

Elring Klinger is a worldwide manufacturer of spare car parts. Through the production of high-tech components for automotive drive systems, they service a wide variety of clients including BMW and Mercedes Benz. PEA had the pleasure of designing their single-story manufacturing, warehouse, and distribution facility. The project included:
- 63,000 SQ FT of manufacturing space, including equipment foundation pits for both injection molding and stamping operations, as well as a 30-metric ton bridge crane to manage the equipment molds
- The facility is also designed to accommodate multiple 30-ton cranes
- 60,000 SQ FT storage/distribution space containing 7 dock positions with a metal canopy, insulated overhead doors, and hydraulic levelers
- 23,000 SQ FT office area
- 12,550 SQ FT of production space

Feuer Powertrain is a German crankshaft manufacturing company that produces cast and forged crankshafts for major automotive manufacturers around the world. Feuer Powertrain hired PEA for the design of their new cutting-edge manufacturing facility in Tunica, Mississippi.
The 168,000 SQ FT building has a conventional steel structure with concrete tilt-wall panels surrounded with insulated metal panels and a mechanically fastened TPO roof system. The building also contains an office with mezzanine and features a soundproof modular wall system and weather controlled exterior sun shade. All production areas are covered with a conductive epoxy floor system to help facilitate forklift movement.

GF Linamar is a joint endeavor between GF Automotive and Linamar Corporation aimed at blending the two companies’ expertise in casting and machinery. PEA was responsible for the structural design of their state-of-the-art plant. The 350,000 SQ FT facility is LEED certified, zero-emission, and includes:
- Division headquarters office
- Melting furnace area
- Die-casting hall
- Heat treatment hall
- Waste water treatment facility
- Central utility supply mezzanine
- Customer sequencing logistics area
- Hazardous material storage, tools storage, and tool shop
The production, tool and maintenance areas are serviced by 50 ton wide-span overhead cranes. All die castings machines are serviced from a central utility mezzanine to keep the surrounding areas accessible from all sides. Machine control cabinets are also placed on the utility mezzanine. The entire facility is constructed of non-combustible building products due to the special requirements associated with the handling of magnesium.

Samvardhana Motherson Peguform (SMP) supplies high quality interior and exterior products for the automotive and related industries, with customers that include Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and BMW. SMP consulted with PEA to design their first US-based factory. This is a design/build project that must meet all requirements and directions required by Vastu Shastra.
The Tier 1, 800,000 SQ FT facility is located on a 96-acre site with more than 1,000,000 cubic feet of cut and fill. This project is currently the largest injection molding facility in the US and consists of:
- Five buildings: a production/administrative facility, two guardhouses, a maintenance building, and one utility building
-Building construction is a custom fabricated steel structure with metal panels and a Membrane roof system
-Production facility has 75,000 SQ FT of office space
-Four levels of office in the main administration area and three levels of office in the paint shop
-10,000 SF utility building contains multiple levels that house the chillers, pumps, compressors, and main switchboards for the main production building - 80,000 SQ FT paint shop is a fully-automated paint line for all parts manufactured in the facility
- Two guardhouses, one serving the entrance and the other serving the exit to the campus
-Each guardhouse is 2,500 SQ FT and includes restrooms, a check-in area, and office space.

For over 90 years, BMW Automotive has provided the world with superior automobiles. In order to grow their global automotive operations, BMW constructed a production facility located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Several years later, BMW contacted PEA to complete the second-half of the expansion, located in Greer, SC. Over 700,000 SQ FT of space was needed for the importing and exporting of the BMW X-Series models. The building uses tilt-wall construction, is LEED certified, and is fully air conditioned.
Other details of the facility include:
- ESFR fire protection system
- 4,000 SQ FT build-out including general office space, conference space, break room and shipping/receiving offices
- Security system including access control, motion sensors and CCTV system
- Data package including fiber optic and CAT cabling throughout providing wireless and wired connectivity for equipment, operational software management and Building Management System

PEA provided the design for ProTrans International, Inc.’s new, larger facility in Greer, South Carolina. Protrans is a Third Party Logistics service provider offering complete network optimization and quality solutions to the manufacturing industry. The new fenced facility is 230,000 SQ FT and features 88 dock doors, 80 auto parking spaces and 137 trailer positions. The building houses operations for a main office, warehouse office, driver office, and 222,456 SQ FT of warehouse space.

Bolta Werke is a prominent manufacturer specializing in the injection molding and electroplating of interior and exterior components for the automotive industry. Bolta hired PEA to create their new 185,000 SQ FT building, composed of a conventional steel frame with concrete tilt-up wall panels. The facility is supported on a shallow foundation system. Inside, there are production, assembly, and distribution areas along with 13,500 SQ FT of office space and an advanced batch processing waste water treatment area. The facility features a fully automated rack planting line, advanced testing equipment and in-process validation as well as the ability to hold 20 injection molding machines.
